History of Homer Stryker Field

1895 - City of Kalamazoo bought land for improvements for the Kalamazoo River.
1925 - Land developed into Riverview Park.
1929 - Red Arrow Post donated $250.00 to develop the baseball field.
1945 - Bleachers were installed.
1967 - Renamed Sutherland Field in honor of former Mayor Louis W. Sutherland.
1940's - 1960's - Sutherland Field was home to the Kalamazoo Lassies of the Women's Professional Baseball League; Kalamazoo Recreation Baseball Leagues and Sutherland Paper Company's national championship teams in 1949 & 1951.
1958 - Lights were added.
1963 - Grandstand replaced bleachers.
1995 - City Commission approved building a sport and recreation complex.
1995 - Complex renamed Annen Park, after Mayor Ed Annen, Jr. Donations were given to help with rebuilding the neglected city park that was overgrown with weeds and used for leaves and brush deposit.
1996 - Renovations completed in the stadium and reopened as the new home field for the Kalamazoo Kodiaks, a member of the Frontier League.
2001 - The ballpark received upgrades and reopened as the home to the Kalamazoo Kings.
2002 - Complex renamed Mayors' Riverfront Park in appreciation to all of the mayors who served the city of Kalamazoo and their efforts to bring baseball back to Kalamazoo.
2002 - The Stryker Family donated the funds to build the clubhouse and make more field improvements. Homer Stryker Field was named in honor of Dr. Homer Stryker, founder of the Stryker Corporation.
2003 - New concession was added along the third base line and a fan services and souvenir building were added along the first base concourse. A left field deck was added to allow a second rentable picnic area.

2005 - Kalamazoo Kings 2005 Frontier League Champions
2009 - Surpassed the 1,000,000 fan mark


From I-94: Take Sprinkle Road (Exit 80) north 1 mile to Business Loop 94. Left on BL 94. Left at King Highway. Right at the first light (Mills Street). Mayor’s Riverfront Stadium is immediately on your right.

From Downtown Kalamazoo: Take East Michigan to Business Loop 94 East. Left at the first light (Mills St.) Mayors’ Riverfront Park is immediately on your right.
